Summer is just around the corner and our children will be running around- playing outside and enjoying outdoor summer fun. As parents, we need to remember safety and keep first aid kits ready “just in case” we need them for minor emergencies. Here’s a list of suggestions or ideas for your own family first aid kits : · 2 pairs of latex gloves (if you have a latex allergy, you can purchase other kinds) · First Aid Manual · Sterile gauze (of different sizes such as 2” x2” or 4”x4”) · Cotton pads · Sterile scissors · Alcohol wipes or rubbing alcohol · Adhesive tape · Adhesive bandages in several sizes · Elastic bandage · Antiseptic wipes · Soap or cleansing wipes · Antibacterial hand sanitizer · Antibiotic Cream or ointment · Hydrogen peroxide · Hydrocortisone Cream (1%) · Benadryl · **Epi-Pen ( If your child has medical condition of severe allergies. You need a prescription for one.) · Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen · Tweezers · Safety Pins · Disposable instant cold packs · Calamine lotion · Thermometer · Flashlight and extra batteries · For more tips, check out Secrets of the Safety Goddess by Britt Michealian. Remember, this is just a suggestion and you can add or delete any of the above items. If you don’t want to assemble this kit yourself, you can go to any drug store or retail store to purchase their FIRST AID kits that are for sale. Remember, to update your kit yearly and replace any expired items. We want our children to have a both FUN AND SAFE summer!
