Stuffed Animals, sterile surgical tables, and a comfortable night’s sleep… Sound like strange bedfellows? Not to the creators of the Pure Plushy stuffed animal line.
Chicago dad Jay Dhillon explains that he and his business partner Roy Sharda, a fellow dad, combined the technology used to keep surgical tables sterile and the Memory Foam developed by NASA, now used in mattresses and pillows, to create an antimicrobial, ultra-soft stuffed animal.
The company launched Benny the Bear and Donny the Dog last July. A lamb, bunny, and cow are coming soon.
According to Dhillon, the use of Silver Nanotechnology, which he describes as natural silver in particles the size of a human hair divided by 200-thousand, can fight against household bacteria, mold, and mites. He says these Nano particles have long been used in the medical field and are starting to be used in other ways including in cancer research as well as in water and air purifiers, washing machines, food containers, and clothing.
The clinically tested product was originally developed for kids who suffer from allergies and asthma and may not be able to play with traditional stuffed toys, which Dhillon explains can be a breeding ground for bacteria. However, he says parents who want to provide a cleaner playing environment have also turned to Pure Plushy.
Two editions of Extreme Home Makeover featured Pure Plushy; it also won a 2006 Family Choice Award from the Family Magazine Group.
